About Swish

Swish (Southery's Wish) was born from an idea by a group of friends with a mutual wish to help out in their local community. Historically funds have been raised for individual projects as and when they have been needed by individual fundraisers. Our aim is to pool together our knowledge and resources to provide one pot for all and our vision is to raise enough funds over a period of time to become an officially registered charity with the capability of dipping into the pot to provide our village with whatever is needed. We intend to do this with various fund-raising events, which not only will raise money but will also allow the village to get together as a community and have some fun in the process.

The Swish Foundation is planning on being a long term charity that will endeavour to support the whole community and also individuals who may find themselves in difficult circumstances
and as such the community are invited to put forward their suggestions of where else the Swish Foundation may be able to help the village and distribute its funds.

If you are an individual or from an organisation in the village and know of anyone that you feel could benefit from funding from the Swish Foundation, please fill out the Swish Application Form and either submit your suggestions to the Swish email address or hand it in to the Swish secretary at 5 Church Lane and mark your envelope 'Swish.' All applications are treated with strict confidentiality and will be given serious consideration.

We currently have a strong team with varying degrees of experience, but if you feel you may be able to help in any way please contact Swish by emailing here or alternatively you can call the Swish telephone number of 07983 162684

Swish Projects & Events of 2013

Event: Bingo
Date: 2nd May
Time: 7.30pm until Late
Location: Village Hall
Project Manager: Sam

Last update: 3rd May 2014

Once again the over 60's played Bingo for free and a larger than usual players appeared for the evening.

Unfortunately Spike was recovering from a freak refereeing incident from the previous week that means he'll be bed ridden for the next 6 weeks so David stepped up to the calling duties aided by the 'dolly dealing' of Kevin. Behind the scenes Claire, Rose, Jodie, Emily and Sam helped with the Tombola and kitchen detail.

An enjoyable evening of Bingo was had by all with a healthy amount raised for the village amenities.

The Summer Ball may have come and gone, but Swish aren't sitting on their laurels. The inevitable heatwave that's bound to hit our shores over the summer means we're also planning and organising a family outdoor event to be held at the playing field.

Stalls and live bands will be the order of the day along with an outdoor bar and other entertainment, including the now compulsory annual Tug-O-War with the British Sugar Team back to defend their title and retain their trophy.

Stay tuned for more information.

The Swish Annual Summer Ball was yet another roaring success with an excellent turn out. Entertainment was provided by K J Entertainment's vocal Duo "Pride" and our very own KevDog contributed the disco element.

The new bar, now run by The Jolly Farmers, was also christened after a major revamp from the Village Hall Committee over the past few weeks. Our thanks also go to all those who made an effort to sort out the electrical problems earlier in the day.

Swish Projects & Events of 2012

Event: New Years Eve Party
Date: 31st Jan 2012
Time: 7.30pm
Location: Village Hall
Project Manager: Emma
Tickets: £5 in advance, £10 on the door

Due to the success of New Years Eve 2011, SWISH decided to do it all over again in 2012 with a good old fashioned disco in Southery Village Hal to see out the year.

Yet again the plan was to bring the village families together who weren't interested in the alternatives on offer in the village for as cheap as possible.

Kevin kept everyone amused with the disco, keeping the kids dancing until they were too tired.

Happy New Year everyone from the Swish team.

Event: Santa Visit Southery
Date: 6th & 12th Dec
Time: 6pm
Location: Childrens Houses
Project Manager: Cath

Santa took time out from his busy schedule to visit all the well behaved children in Southery, delivering pre-Christmas presents to the girls and boys. Along with his little (and some not so little) elves, they set off into the night to deliver the presents, pausing only briefly for a swift half at the Jolly Farmers.

As last year, Santa was resting the reindeer and having them serviced by Ryan Air in time for their Christmas Eve flight around the globe, so Mr Satchwell stepped in to help out and volunteered the services of his tractor and trailer.

The annual Christmas Shopping Bus Trip will be deparyed from the Old White Bell car park at 9.30am sharp and arrived in Norwich outside the Castle Mall around an hour later.

The shopping trip went well although we were down on numbers compared to previous years. It would be a shame to lose this annual convenient cheap shopping trip for the village, so please make an effort to spread the word in time for next years trip.

Event: Has Southery Got More Talent
Date: 17th Nov 2012
Time: 7pm
Location: Village Hall
Project Manager: Cath
Tickets: TBA

The talent competition that literally some of us talked about, was back on Saturday 17th Thursday with a plethora of acts taking part.

Our selected judges on the night were Susan Chase, Andrew Beswick and Adam 'Skoda' Osler and our host was Mr Nigel Bird. They decided the top 3 acts which were invited to go again and the the audience were treated to light entertainment while they voted for their top act.

Unfortunately I wasn't on hand to do the usual photographic and video duties due to my commitments back stage. If anyone has some pics they'd like to share here on the web site, please email me with details.

Event: Summer Coach Trip
Date: Thu 16th Aug
Time: 9.30am
Location: Hunstanton
Project Manager: Hayley

The Swish annual summer coach trip for the whole family went ahead as planned to the delights of Sunny Hunny that lived up to it's name this year. Despite being a little bit breezy, a great time was had by all.
Leaving from the bus stop opposite the Old White Bell at 9.30am on Thursday 16th August 2012, seats were only £3 each.

Event: Swish Ball
Date: 14th July 2012
Time: 7.30pm until midnight
Location: Village Hall
Project Manager: Bee
Tickets: £12.50

The Swish Summer Ball threw open the doors to the village hall at 7.30pm with a buffet, bar, live band and disco.

The live band came in the guise of the fabulous "Rockin Avocados" who entertained us all (and most people within a 5 mile radius) with two great sets. All too soon, after a break for the buffet and the ever popular 'coin up the bottle' game whereby Sue DeWing walked (or rather staggered) off with the first prize of a one and a half litre bottle of Smirnoff, the entertainment was taken over by our resident DJ, KevDog.

Boogying into the night, a great time was had by all.
